Justice Maohammed Garba of the Lagos Division of the Court of Appeal has assumed the headship of the five-man presidential election petition tribunal sitting in Abuja.

Garba, who appeared at the panel for the first time on Monday, replaces the President of the Court of Appeal, Justice Zainab Bulkachuwa who withdrew from the panel on May 22 following the objection raised by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate in the February 23 presidential election, Mr. Atiku Abubakar.

The petitioners who are challenging the victory of President Muhammadu Buhari and his All Progressives Congress (APC) at the February 23 presidential election had contended that it would be wrong to allow Justice Bulkachuwa head the panel because her husband and son are card-carrying members of the APC which sponsored Buhari’s election.

Meanwhile, the tribunal adjourned till Tuesday, June 11 to hear six pending applications that were filed by the PDP and Atiku in respect of Buhari’s victory.
