Unbundles power, works and housing ministry, excises aviation from transportation
Eighty-five days after he was sworn in for a second four-year term of four years, President Muhammadu Buhari on Wednesday inaugurated his 43-member federal cabinet.
In the new appointments, the president returns as minister of petroleum resources with the former governor of Bayelsa State, Mr. Timipre Sylva as minister of state; Adamu Adamu returns as minister of education, Abubakar Malami as minister of justice and attorney general of the federation, Chris Ngige as minister of labour and employment and Rotimi Amaechi as minister of transportation.
The others who retained their port folios are Geoffrey Onyeama, foreign affairs, Suleiman Adamu, water resources;, Mohammed Musa Bello, Federal Capital Territory; Ogbonnaya Onu, science and technology, Suleiman Adamu; Zainab Ahmed finance), and Lai Mohammed, information and culture.
The president excised aviation from the ministry of transportation with Senator Hadi Sirika as the head. He served as minister of state, aviation in the former dispensation.
The president unbundled the ministry of power, works and housing. He pulled out power from the trio, leaving the works and housing ministry as an entity.
Mr. Babatunde Fashola (formerly minister of power, works and housing) now becomes the minister of works and housing.
The president subsumed the ministry of budget and national planning under finance.
The president also created new ministries. They are the ministry of special duties/international affairs; ministry of humanitarian affairs/disaster management and social development as well as ministry of police affairs, which was hitherto the police service commission.
