The managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Saleh Dunoma has announced the setting up of a panel to investigate the immediate and remote causes of the fire that engulfed some departments of the agency yesterday.

The panel comprises the Department of State Security (DSS), the Nigeria Police Force, Accident and Investigation Bureau (AIB) and the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) while a representative from the legal department will serve as secretary.

Dunoma who disclosed this while addressing a press conference after he inspected affected areas alongside his management team said the committee would basically investigate the entire incident, with a view to evaluating the immediate and remote causes of the fire, determining the extent of damage, making recommendations to forestall future reoccurrence, amongst other issues that may arise in the cause of their investigation.

He said the panel is expected to turn in their report within the next two weeks adding that the police force would continue its parallel investigation to unravel the cause of the incident.

While apologizing to the general public and road users around the FAAN headquarters for inconveniences that might have arisen during the incident, he affirmed that the agency would not shut down its operations since a chunk of the offices was not affected.

Thereafter, the managing director said FAAN had planned to construct a new corporate headquarters.

He said the agency had concluded the plan to hire consultants to select winners for bids for the architectural design of the new building.
