Nollywood actor, Mr. Jim Iyke, was on Monday arrested at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2 for assaulting a male staff of Dana Air.
An eye witness who spoke to NewsGazette on condition of anonymity said Iyke arrived at the airport around 12:15pm for the Abuja-bound flight and the airline’s security personnel tried to help him to meet up with the flight by searching him.
“He arrived a bit late for the flight but the airline’s security staff wanted to frisk him so that he could board the flight which was yet to take off. He flared up and pushed the airline staff. The security man demanded to know why he (Iyke) did that. Jim flared up again and gave the man a dirty slap. There, he was told he could not board the aircraft again,” he said.
The eyewitness said the actor was later arrested by policemen from the Airport Police Command.
Spokesman for Dana, Mr. Kingsley Ezenwa confirmed the incident.
However, he said Iyke was released after he apologised to the airline staff.
“He realised his mistake and apologised to the staff and management of the airline,” said Ezenwa.
However, he said the actor eventually missed the flight, which was still on the ground when the incident happened.
Spokesman for the police command, Mr. Alabi Joseph, also confirmed the incident saying Iyke was released after he tendered an apology.
