The national leadership of Udom Frontiers 2019 has begun a nationwide campaign to mobilize Akwa Ibom communities in Nigeria and in the diaspora for the second term bid of the state governor, Mr. Udom Emmanuel.
Addressing Akwa Ibom Community in Abuja, the national coordinator of the Frontiers Mr. Ime Victor said the group had partnered with the various Akwa Ibom communities in the north to ensure the reelection of the governor in 2019.
“There are over 10,000 voters who have already transferred their permanent voter cards from Abuja to Akwa Ibom State. Therefore, in the entire North there are 65,000 voters ready to vote for Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibom. Udom Frontiers has also concluded plans to mobilize 15,000 voters in Lagos, 20,000 in Rivers State, 11,000 in Cross River, 25,000 in Akwa Ibom, 7,000 in Enugu, 7,000 in Abia, 6,500 in Oyo, 4,800 in Ondo, and 5,000 in Anambra. Importantly, these are bread winners and they have the capacity to mobilize their dependants to vote for the governor,” he said.
He said the support group had done well in his first term and should therefore go for a second term to consolidate on the gains he had made in the areas of security, infrastructural development, welfare of civil servants, industrialisation, women and youth empowerment, and the Dakkada Initiative, among others.
Responding, the president of the Community, Mr. Tommy Okon, agreed to mobilize people for the re-election of the governor without openly taking part in campaigns “because the Community is apolitical.”
However, he complained that the present administration in the state had been aloof from the Community unlike the governments of Obong Victor Attah and Senator Godswill Akpabio.
“There should be a representative of the government that will be able to communicate its policies to the Community. We earnestly crave for recognition by the government. This way the Community can mobilize its members well ahead of time,” Okon added.
