2019: Atiku trounces Saraki, others to win PDP presidential ticket

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has elected the former vice president, Mr. Atiku Abubakar as its candidate for the 2019 presidential election.

At the party’s elective national convention held at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Atiku scored 1, 532 to beat the other 11 contestants.

The election which began on Saturday and continued on Sunday was contested by Atiku, the senate president, Dr.  Bukola Saraki, governor of Sokoto State, Mr. Aminu Tambuwal and former governor of Kano State, Mr. Musa Rabiu Kwankwaso, former governor of Jigawa State, Mr. Sule Lamido, former governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Ahmed Makarfi,

The others were former governor of Sokoto State, Mr. Attahiru Bafarawa (erstwhile Sokoto governor), former minister of special duties, Mr. Tanimu Turaki and former legislator, Mr. Datti Baba-Ahmed, former senate president, Mr. David Mark, governor of Gombe State, Mr. Ibrahim Dankwambo, and former governor of Plateau State, Mr. Jonah Jang

In the keenly contested primary, Atiku polled 1, 532 votes and was followed by Tambuwal with 693 votes and Saraki 317 votes.

The other results were Kwankwaso, 158; Dankwambo, 111; Lamido, 96; Makarfi, 74, Turaki, 65; Bafarawa, 48; Mark, 35; Jang, 19 and Baba-Ahmed, 05 votes.
