Justice Fadima Aminu of the Federal High Court in Damaturu, Yobe State on Wednesday ordered the All Progressives Congress (APC) to immediately send the name of Mr. Bashir Machina to the Independent Nation Electoral Commission (INEC) as the valid winner of the party’s primary election for the Yobe North Senatorial District held on May 28.
In a two-hour judgement, the judge held the party primary election that produced the senate president, Mr. Ahmad Lawan was a “phantom and therefore a nullity”.
Lawan had sought to usurp the ticket from Machina after he (Lawan) lost his bid to be the party’ presidential candidate.
Recall that the senate president had contested the presidential primary of the ruling party about the same time as the senatorial won by Machina.
He lost to Bola Tinubu, a development that forced him to jostle for the senatorial ticket.
Lawan has been in the national assembly as a federal lawmaker for 23 unbroken years.
