The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr. Umo Eno has issued an order for immediate renovation and upgrade of facilities in primary schools in the state.
The governor gave the directive when he paid an unscheduled visit to Christ the King Primary School, located along Willington Bassey Way, Uyo, on Friday.
He said the school would be upgraded to standard with the renovation of structures, provision of educational materials, solar lights, pipe-borne water, and staff quarters.
“Education is a key thing in the ARISE agenda and so we are determined, especially at the grassroots level. The grassroots level of education begins with the primary school.
“This school is next to the government house, so it should be a model. We want to start here to create that model primary school we’re talking about.
“I have just interacted with the pupils, they are vacating on the 28th, and we will use that holiday to remodel this school, working very hard with the Ministry of Housing, the architect, and the rest,” he said.
For being at her duty post during the unscheduled inspection visit, the governor rewarded the headmistress of the school, Mrs Eme Joseph with an automatic promotion.
She was found discharging her duty of coordinating the pupils and supervising the teachers during the unannounced visit.
The governor said she demonstrated the true spirit of hard work, dedication and selfless service in the discharge of her duties.
He charged the school management and teachers to demonstrate mentorship and instill high moral discipline among the pupils.
Eno warned against lackadaisical attitude to government work saying his administration would not tolerate any form of casual disposition to duties, and vowed to punish erring officials.
Responding, the school’s headmistress, expressed appreciation to the governor for the visit and the decision to give the school a facelift.
