Allied Air has taken delivery of a modern B737-800SF, putting the cargo airline atop other operators in Africa.
The minister of aviation, Mr. Hadi Sirika, together with governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele, the group managing director of Access Bank, Mr. Hubert Wigwe and others was on hand to receive the aircraft at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja
The Lagos-based International Air Transport Association (IATA)-designated cargo airline in Africa is also the first cargo airline on the continent to attain the IOSA certification.
The acquired freighter (MSN 36846) is the youngest 737-800 series and Allied Air is the first airline in Africa to own and operate it.
B737-800SF Cargo Conversion consists of the installation of a 86″ x 137″ cargo door on the left side of the fuselage, and modification of main deck to a Class E cargo compartment.
After conversion the aircraft can carry eleven 88″ x 125″ AAA full height containers or pallets and one AEP/AEH, with pallet weights up to 9,000 lbs.
It can accommodate eleven 88″x125″ AAA full height containers or pallets plus one AEP/AEH Up to 52,700 LB (23,904 KG) main deck payload (depending on model and aircraft weight limits).
