The governor of Rivers State, Mr. Nyesom Wike has appealed for calm saying he would not succumb to any secessionist agenda.

He stated this in Port Harcourt after holding an emergency meeting with security commanders in the state following Saturday’s killing of seven policemen by gunmen.

In a statement by his media aide, Mr. Kelvin Ebiri, the governor condemned the killing of the police officers.

He reiterated that no amount of intimidation or cruel resort to barbaric attacks will make the state succumb to the secessionist plan of those who are bent on plunging Nigeria into another unwarranted crisis.

On behalf of the state government, Wike expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the policemen and the Rivers State Police Command.

“On behalf of the Government of Rivers State, I wish to offer our heartfelt condolences and express our deep sadness in the wake of these horrific attacks,” he said.

He urged residents of the state to be calm as the security council had taken measures to secure the state.

He tasked residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious movement or persons to security agents.
