INEC declares PDP’s Ademola Adeleke as winner of Osun governorship election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship candidate, Mr. Ademola Adeleke, has won the Osun governorship election held yesterday, Saturday, July 16.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) returning officer for the poll, Mrs. Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, who announced the result on Sunday morning, said the PDP candidate scored 403,371 votes to emerge victorious.

Adeleke won in 17 of the 30 local government areas of the state.

His closest rival and incumbent governor, Mr. Adegboyega Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 375,927 votes and won in 13 local government areas.

Mrs. Ogundipe therefore announced the PDP candidate as the winner and returned elected

“I hereby declare that Ademola Adeleke having satisfied the requirement of the law is hereby declared the winner and he is returned elected,” she said.

Reacting to the announcement, the PDP caretaker chairman in the state, Dr. Akindele Adekunle said the victory of the party was a product of mass mobilisation and grand coalition of people of Osun State against bad governance and insensitive leadership.
