President Mohammadu Buhari arrived in Lagos on Monday on two-day working visit.
The president at the presidential wing of the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Ikeja and was received by the state governor and his deputy, Messrs Babajide Sanwoolu and Obafemi Hamzat; the governors of Ekiti and Ogun states, Messrs Mr. Biodun Oyebanji and Dapo Abiodun, former governor of Ekiti State, Dr Kayode Fayemi, the service chiefs, and members of the Lagos State executive council.
During the visit tagged ‘Lagos festival of projects’, the president would inaugurate the Lagos Rice Mill, Imota, 18.75-kilomere Eleko-Epe rigid pavement six lane expressway, blue light rail from Mile Two to Marina, fully completed Lekki Deep Sea Port, John Randle Centre for Yoruba Culture and History, and MRS Lubricant, Apapa.
According to the release by the state government, Buhari would first inaugurate the Lekki Deep Sea Port before heading to Ikorodu for the Imota Rice Mill.
Thereafter, he would inspect the work at Eleko-Epe rigid pavement six lane expressway.
The president who rounds off the visit tomorrow (Tuesday, January 24) will leave for Dakar, Senegal, to attend the second edition of the Dakar International Conference on Agriculture.
The summit which holds under the theme ‘Feeding Africa: food sovereignty and resilience,’ is hosted by the president of Senegal and chairman, African Union, Mr. Macky Sall.
Spokesman for the president, Mr. Femi Adesina, said in a statement entitled ‘President Buhari to attend Dakar International Conference on Agricultural’ the event is convened jointly by the government of Senegal and the African Development Bank.
“With Africa accounting for 249 million or a third of the 828 million hungry people in the world, the Summit, to be attended by African Heads of State and Government, Ministers of finance and agriculture, as well as several global development partners, is expected to make commitments on eradicating hunger in Africa by 2030.
“There will also be side meetings to discuss agreements on the delivery of food and agricultural products in some countries, including Nigeria,” Adesina said.
The conference will among other things, seek to create favourable conditions toward achieving food security in Africa.
On the president’s delegation are Ministers and top government officials such as the minister of foreign affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, minister of agriculture and rural development, Dr. Mohammad Abubakar, national security adviser, Maj. Gen. Mohammed Babagana Monguno (retd) and director general, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Mr. Ahmed Abubakar.
Buhari returns to Nigeria on Wednesday, January 25.
