The governorship candidate of the Labour Party (LP) in Kano State, Mr. Bashir Bashir, has defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

It was gathered that Bashir dumped the party because of alleged exclusion of major northern stakeholders in the decision-making process of the party’s campaign.

Recall that Bashir, alongside LP chieftains in the state had, on January 21 shunned the party’s presidential rally held in Kano.

The other LP members who shunned the rally were the state coordinator for Peter Obi’s campaign, Mr. Balarabe Wakili, a member of the presidential campaign council, Mr. Idris Dambazau.

It was also learnt that another reason for the defection was the “lack of clear direction on the interest of northern Nigeria”.

Bashir was said to have held meetings with the APC presidential candidate, Mr. Bola Tinubu, as well as his running mate, Mr. Kashim Shettima.

The meetings reportedly held in Lagos and Abuja, where agreement was said to have been reached on the terms of defection.

Bashir reportedly promised to mobilise his supporters to vote for the APC presidential candidate.
