President Bola Tinubu has announced a gift of N152, 320,000.00 ($100, 000) to each member of the women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, for winning the 2025 FIBA Women’s Afrobasket Championship.
The president also splashed N76, 164,000.00 ($50, 000) on each member of the technical crew in recognition of their role in the team’s success. The cash gifts for both the team and the crew total N228, 484, 000.
In addition, Tinubu conferred national honours on members of the basketball team.
The announcements were made on Monday when the president hosted the team at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Celebrating the young women’s outstanding performance that secured Nigeria’s fourth consecutive Afrobasket title, Tinubu praised the team’s resilience, discipline and representation of Nigeria on the continental stage.
He said the victorious team is a role model for the nation’s youth and symbol of national pride.
Recall that the team trounced Senegal in the final to clinch the 2025 title, extending their dominance in African women’s basketball and reinforcing Nigeria’s status as a basketball powerhouse on the continent.
