The Accident Investigation Bureau Nigeria (AIB-N), has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigeria Air Force.
The commissioner and chief executive officer of AIB-N, Mr. Akin Olateru said in a statement that the inter-agency agreement hinged on mutual knowledge exchange, human capacity development and shared resources in the pursuit of excellence in service delivery.
“Our duty, as accident investigators of civil aviation, is one thing but understanding one’s needs is very critical to the success of an institution,” he said.
Outlining the many benefits to the respective agencies involved and to Nigeria as a whole, Olateru confirmed that the Bureau was seeking similar collaboration with the Nigerian Navy, Nigeria Police Force (NPF), Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC), and Nigeria Emergency Management Agency (NEMA).
Air Vice Marshal Isiaka Amao who represented the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar commended the AIB-N leadership for consistently seeking ways to improve safety in the nation’s airspace through early release of accident investigation reports.
He assured that NAF would ensure maximum cooperation with the bureau in areas of common interests and mutual benefits in the onerous task of ensuring aviation safety and security.
Amao said NAF had over the years made tremendous progress in research and development.
He noted that the remarkable progress made by NAF in recent time was not unconnected with strategic partnership with ministries, departments and agencies for enhanced research and development.
While Olateru signed on behalf of the AIB-N, Amao signed on behalf of the NAF.
The Bureau, under this current administration, is focused on engendering relationships which enable excellence and enduring world-class standards in the investigation and prevention of air accidents in Nigeria.
