The commissioner of Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB), Mr. Akin Olateru, has appraised the performance of the agency in the out gone year saying it was the cynosure of the parastatls in the aviation sector due to many of the reforms he put together.

Speaking at a New Year interactive forum with the agency’s staff in Lagos on Wednesday, Olateru recalled the speedy release of accident reports that had gathered dust on the shelf, the accident investigation programmes conducted in collaboration with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) of the United States as well as the timely release of accurate air accident report involving an airline in Sao Tome and Principe.

it would be recalled that Olateru led the AIB team to submit the final report of the accident involving Cavok Airlines CVK 7087 AN-74TK-100 Aircraft marked Ur-CKC, which occurred at Sao Tome International Airport, Sao Tome on July 29, 2017.

He said the feat achieved by the agency was capped by the conferment of an award at NIGAV Awards 2018.

He added that the achievements were made possible by the management and staff of who worked tirelessly to make the agency one of the most vibrant during the year in review.

However, Olateru said the year, no doubt, had its highs and lows but stated that the sense of communality was unparalleled in the way each one contributed to the call to duty.

“We will not rest on our oars but must be determined to make more successes than we have recorded,” he said.

In 2019, Olateru said AIB will do more in the upgrade of its infrastructure, ensure constant review of its systems, processes and procedure, and invest more on human capital development.

“In 2019, we shall be better than before. We will do more in upgrading our infrastructure, equipment and invest more on human capital development. All these I believe will make AIB a world class institution and make it an enviable place to work”.

“I therefore call on us all to roll up our sleeves, tighten our seat belts and be prepared f or greater work deliveries. This we shall do in most cordial manner fostering an even better working relationship with dynamism.”

He thanked the entire AIB team for the unalloyed support and cooperation he had enjoyed working with them throughout 2018.
