Air Peace has announced the resumption of flight operations following the suspension of the industrial action by the employees of the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NIMET).
The strike was backed by the National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE) and the Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), among others.
Recall that the airline had on Wednesday announced the suspension of all its scheduled services due to the workers’ strike which stalled flight operations.
The airline said NiMet is critical to its services as “it is the agency responsible for issuing …weather reports, which are critical for safe landings, especially during this season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms.”
“We regret to inform you that due to the ongoing strike by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet), Air Peace is suspending all flight operations nationwide with immediate effect.
“This decision is necessary because NiMet is the agency responsible for issuing CNH (current nowcast of hazardous weather) reports, which are critical for safe landings, especially during this season of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. “Without these reports from the control tower, flight safety cannot be guaranteed,” the airline said.
Late yesterday, (Thursday), the airline said in a statement that all its flight operations begin today, Friday April 25, 2025.
“We sincerely thank you for your patience, understanding, and unwavering support throughout this challenging period. Your resilience and trust in our brand mean the world to us,” spokesman for the carrier, Dr Ejike Ndiulo said in the statement.
He praised the minister of aviation and aerospace development, Mr Festus Keyamo, for playing a pivotal role “in resolving the impasse and restoring normalcy within the aviation industry.”
“Keyamo’s swift engagement with all stakeholders, his transparent approach to dialogue, and his unwavering dedication to the stability and progress of the aviation sector reflect a deep understanding of the critical role aviation plays in national development.
“His efforts not only facilitated the timely resolution of the strike but also underscored his broader vision for a safer, more efficient, and investor-friendly Nigerian aviation landscape,” he added.
