The First Lady, Aisha Buhari, has apologised to her family and all Nigerians over a video in which she was seen shouting at the Presidential Villa.
In a statement by her spokesman, Mr. Suleiman Haruna, Mrs. Buhari tendered the apology when she played host to the wives of governors of the 36 states yesterday at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The statement reads in part, “Commenting on the videos circulating on social networks, (Aisha) Buhari extended her apology to her children, her immediate family members and all well-meaning Nigerians over the embarrassment that the videos had caused,” she said.
The video, which recently surfaced online was recorded by daughter of Mamman Daura, Fatima, who accused the first lady of attacking her at the Villa.
Daura is the president Muhammadu Buhari’s nephew.
Commenting on the video upon her return to Nigeria after spending two months in the United Kingdom, the First Lady confirmed that she was the angry woman in the viral video.
She said she was angry in the video because she was denied access to parts of the Villa by Daura and his family.
Haruna also said Aisha expressed appreciation to her husband for approving a new set of aides to assist her in the discharge of her various responsibilities.
He said earlier, the First Lady of Borno State, Mrs. Falmata Umara Zulum, who represented Northern First Ladies’ Forum and Mrs. Betsy Obaseki, who represented Southern First Ladies’ Forum made submissions at the meeting.
Speaking on behalf of her colleagues from the north, Zulum declared their loyalty and support to the First Lady towards uplifting the lives of women and children in Nigeria.
”I want to assure you of our loyalty and support to all your initiative towards uplifting the wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria.
”We are ever ready to take on any assignment in seeing that women and children are in good health, especially with your Future Assured Programme.
“We are going to give you all the necessary support you require because we believe any decision you take will be in the best interest of women and children in Nigeria,” Zulum said.
For her part, Obaseki, said they were at the State House to welcome the first lady from her visit to the United kingdom and thanked God for her safe return in good health.
Obaseki prayed the Almighty God to guide and protect the first lady to achieve her purpose of being there for the wellbeing of women and children in Nigeria.
