The All Progressives Congress (APC) representative of Benue North West in the senate, Mr. George Akume, has lost his fourth term re-election bid to the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Emmanuel Orker-Jev in last Saturday.

The returning officer and deputy vice chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture, Makurdi, Prof. Nicodemus Ochani who announced the result on Tuesday said Orker-Jev who is a serving member of the House of Representatives, polled 157,726 to beat Akume who scored 115,422 votes.

He said the election could not be cancelled or annulled as initial issues raised were resolved.

The only female contestant in the election and candidate of the Justice Must Prevail Party (JMPP), Mrs. Favour Shuaib Ishember, polled 51 votes alongside few others who scored varying number of votes.

In Nasarawa State, the incumbent governor and candidate of APC, Mr. Tanko Al-Makura defeated the incumbent senator representing Nasarawa South senatorial district, Mr. Suleiman Adokwe of the PDP, to clinch the ticket to the senate.

The returning officer for the senatorial election, Prof. Mohammed Kida of the Federal University, Lafia who announced the result in Lafia said Al-Makura, polled a total of 113,156 votes to beat Adokwe who scored 104,495 votes.

In Benue State, the former minister of interior, Mr. Abba Moro emerged the winner of Benue South senatorial seat.

Announcing the result in Otukpo, the returning officer, Prof. Aunde Anune said Moro of the PDP polled 85,162 to defeat the candidate of the APC, Mr. Steven Lawani who scored 47,972.

Moro would be succeeding Senator David Mark who has been in the senate since 1999.

In Enugu State, the former governor between 1999 and 2007, Dr. Chimaroke Nnamani of the PDP was declared the winner of Enugu East senatorial zone election.

He scored a total of 128,843 votes to defeat his closest rival, Lawrence Ezeh of the APC, who got 14,225 votes while Mr. Uchenna Agbo of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) had 1,586 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) also declared the former governor of Kano State and chieftain of the APC, Mr. Ibrahim Shekarau as the winner of Kano Central District in the election held on February 23.

Announcing the results, INEC returning officer for the senatorial district, Prof. Adamu Alhaji-Samaila said Shekarau scored 506, 271 votes to defeat the PDP candidate, Mr. Aliyu Sani-Madawakingini who polled 276, 768 votes.

The PDP senator for Delta south senatorial district, Mr. James Manager was on Tuesday re-elected.

He scored 258,812 votes to beat the former governor and candidate of the APC, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan who polled 125,776.

Chief Thomas Ereyitomi of the PDP also won the Warri federal constituency seat with 152,874 to defeat his closest rival Chief Daniel Reyeneju of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) who scored 25,032.

The minority leader of the House of Representatives, Mr. Leo Ogor polled 34,000 to defeat Mr. Joel Onowdakpo-Thomos of the APC who had 23,553 votes.
