The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has finally arrested the former director general of the Department of State Services (DSS), .
Ekpenyong was said to have been arrested today in connection with alleged N17 billion fraud in the agency.
Spokesman for the EFCC spokesman, Mr. Wilson Uwujaren, confirmed Ekpenyong’s arrest said: “Our men went there to do the work that they were prevented from doing about ten months ago.”
The arrest is believed to be part of the ongoing probe of the sacked director general of the agency, Mr. Lawal Daura.
It would be recalled that in November 2017, the EFCC attempted to arrest Ekpenyong and search his home at 46 Mamman Nasir Street, Asokoro, Abuja, but DSS operatives resisted the arrest in an embarrassing confrontation.
The DSS said it was relying on the provisions of a legal instrument approved by the administration of Abdulsalami Abubakar in resisting the arrest of its former director general.
EFCC said the spy chief who headed the DSS between 2010 and 2015 was wanted for his alleged role in the arms scam involving former National Security Adviser (NSA), Col. Sambo Dasuki, and other former senior military officials.
