The chairman of Air Peace Limited, Mr Allen Onyema, has been conferred with the award of Vanguard Personality of the Year.
The honour was announced at the 2023 Vanguard Newspaper Awards ceremony held yesterday in Lagos.
The awards night also marked the 12th anniversary of Vanguard’s celebration of excellence.
Spokesman for the airline, Mr Stanley Olisa quoted Onyema as expressing his profound gratitude to the management of the newspaper “for recognising his deep nationalistic beliefs, trailblazing spirit, and philanthropy.”
“This recognition of my efforts and interest in peace advocacy will spur me to do even more. I am deeply honoured and encouraged to continue striving for the betterment of our nation,” Onyema said.
“The event underscored Dr. Onyema’s significant contributions to national unity and societal progress, highlighting his unwavering commitment to fostering peace and development in Nigeria.
“His achievements have not only garnered national acclaim but also set a benchmark for leadership and community service,” the statement added.
The ceremony was attended by dignitaries including the minister of interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, who was also honoured with the same award, the governor of Osun State, Mr Ademola Adeleke and the former governor of Cross River State, Mr Donald Duke, among others.
