The All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost one of his senators from Imo State, Mr. Benjamin Uwajumogu.
The senator representing Imo West, Mr. Rochas Okorocha confirmed Uwajumogu’s death to journalists outside the senate chamber on Wednesday.
Uwajumogu, 51, who represented Imo North was said to have slumped in the toilet while taking his bath and rushed to a private hospital in Apo, Abuja where he died
Reacting to the death, the APC the late lawmaker was known for his commitment to the promotion of legislations to enhance good governance, particularly in the area of education, infrastructure and social amenities.
The party, in a statement by its spokesman, Mr. Lanre Issa-Onilu said: “Many who crossed path with the late Senator described him as pleasant and accommodating. He was an astute politician, fine lawmaker, social crusader, successful businessman, humanitarian and a philanthropist.”
The APC condoled with the immediate family of the deceased, constituents, national assembly, particularly the senate and the government and people of Imo State, while also praying to God to grant him eternal rest and also give everyone the strength to bear this painful loss.
It added that Uwajumogu was one of the frontline party leaders that worked assiduously to entrench the APC in the southeast, stressing that he always made himself available to serve the Party whenever called upon.
Also, the Imo State chapter of the APC described the legislator’s death as “shocking and a huge loss.”
APC chairman in the state, Mr. Daniel Nwafor, said the death of the senator was painful.
Nwafor said, “It is a huge loss to the party, to Imo State and the entire country. He was a resourceful politician.
“The news of his demise was shocking. We can’t question God but he should have lived longer. The party, state and country are in a mourning mood. It is a bad Christmas gift for us.”
Uwajumogu, who was first elected into the senate in 2017, was reelected in 2019.
He was the speaker of the Imo State House of Assembly between 2011 and 2015.
Until his death, he was the senate committee chairman on Labour and employment.
He hailed from the Ihitte/Uboma local government area of Imo state.
