The presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Atiku Abubakar, is billed to begin a tour of states greatly impacted by flood.
Spokesman for the PDP flag bearer, Mr. Paul Ibe, said in a release that the trip would begin on Tuesday, October 25 with a visit to Bayelsa State.
“The tours to states ravaged by flooding become incumbent in view of the trauma that the incidents have caused its victims.
“Consequently, the tours will provide the presidential candidate the opportunity to have an on-sight impact assessment of these flooding incidents and give him a veritable window to input those ecological concerns in his policy documents,” he said.
In another statement, Atiku expressed concern about the spate of attacks by suspected herdsmen in Benue State.
He said the sustained clashes between farmers and herders have led to the loss of lives including those of police officers in Gbeji village, Ukum local government area of the state.
“When our people are well integrated into communities where they live, work, pay their taxes and raise their children then they’d be obligated to reciprocate the love and acceptance.”
Atiku admonished Nigerians to shun ethnic profiling and hateful rhetoric. He noted that accidents of birth should not be a reason for clashes.
“We should see our fellow citizens as fellow Nigerians. Where we were born and our mode of worship is a geographical situation that we have no control over. What we have in common is far greater than our differences,” he added.
Meanwhile, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Mr. Bola Tinubu, has made a donation of N100 million to flood victims in Kano.
According to NAN, Tinubu announced the donation during a dinner organised in his honour by Kano business community council on Saturday (yesterday) in Kano.
He called for sustained prayers to end flood disasters in the state and the nation in general.
Tinubu said the donation was aimed at alleviating the sufferings of the victims in the affected Local Government Areas.
The APC candidate said if elected, he would ensure that Nigeria’s diversity served as a source of prosperity for all.
“Unity in diversity, peace and prosperity are the fulcrum of my mission in this contest,” he said
Tinubu noted that the federal government had taken several measures to build infrastructure and improve the ease of doing business across the country.
The APC presidential candidate pledged to reposition existing industries and make them a competitive source of industrialisation and growth, not just for the North or Kano but the entire country.
He also commended the state’s governor, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for his stride in infrastructure development in the state.
Tinubu, who described Ganduje as a “friend and a reliable partner”, said that the relationship between Kano and Lagos dated back to years due to the similarities between the two economic giants.
The APC presidential candidate also promised the business community that he would provide enabling environment for business to thrive in the state.
He thanked the business community for the honour and promised to look into their blue print, if elected.
“If we win the election, we will call your representatives and see how we can move the nation forward,” he said.
