High winds generated by thunderstorm yesterday caused massive damage to the secretariat of the League of Airport and Aviation Correspondents (LAAC) office located on the Murtala Muhammed International Airport Road, Lagos.
The strong wind which followed the early morning rain blew off the roof of the office while the rain water destroyed office equipment including furniture, air conditioners, computers, and a giant photocopying machine worth over N200, 000.
Also destroyed were official documents and a well-stocked library.
Speaking on the incident, secretary of the league, Mr. Abel Orukpe who described it as “unfortunate” said “the extent of the damage is yet to be determined as the executives are still sifting through the destruction to recover anything they can.
He said he was confused when he received the news that windstorm had caused extensive devastation to the secretariat.
“I was on my way to church when I received the news of the natural disaster. I had to take a detour and when I got to the secretariat words could not express what I found.”
“To be honest, I did not know where to start from, but we managed to salvage what we could,” he added.
