The Nigerian aviation sector is expected to inject about $5b out of the $3.10 trillion required by the National Integrated Infrastructure Master plan (NIMP) over a period of 30 years through the public-private partnerships (PPPs).
The managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mr. Saleh Dunoma stated this at the annual conference and exhibition of the Airport Council International ACI) taking place in Montreal, Canada.
“We also have a huge infrastructure deficit for which we require foreign capital and expertise to supplement whatever resources we can marshal at home. In essence we seek PPP in our quest for enhanced capital and expertise,” he said
Dunoma said the appointment of Senator Hadi Sirika as the minister of state for aviation had helped to fast track the provision of legislative framework and corresponding incentives to attract foreign direct investment.
Earlier in the opening ceremony, ACI’s director general, Angela Gittens had stated that “ACI-NA works with our members everyday to seek common sense approaches to turn short-term challenges into long-term opportunities.”
She said this year’s conference which she described as the “largest” gathering in the world “for airports, by airports” perfectly highlights ACI’s unique position as the Voice of Airports all around the world
Besides, the president of Aeroports de Montreal, James Cherry, expressed delight in playing host to airport leaders across the globe.
He disclosed that the Montreal – Trudeau Air port “is celebrating its 75th anniversary and will be glad to share the many changes made to lift its services to world-class levels and strengthen its role as a strategic transportation hub.”
