The speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, Mr. Emmanuel Isenah, who was reportedly impeached earlier today, has said that he was still in charge.
He was reported to have been succeeded Mr. Monday Obolo, representing Southern Ijaw Constituency 2.
It was gathered that Isenah, who is from the same Kolokuma-Opokuma local government area with Douye Diri, governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 16 off-season election in the state, had been under pressure to resign as the speaker so that his party could spread political offices to enable them to pull in more votes in the election.
But Isenah, in an interview with NAN later in the evening dismissed the report of his impeachment insisting that he remained the speaker of the assembly.
“I did not resign, neither was I impeached.
“I presided over the House and I did not preside as an impeached speaker.
“So, as we speak, the House is on recess and anything done by anyone is a nullity.
“The speculation that there was an understanding that I will resign is false.
“I challenge anyone canvassing that position to come up with a proof,” Isenah said.
The plenary on Monday was characterised by sporadic gunshots that forced everyone scamper in no direction.
Besides, it was reported that some miscreants stormed the assembly complex.
Isenah, it was learnt, adjourned the session indefinitely for the House to proceed on recess.
The members who stayed back reportedly resumed sitting and allegedly impeached Isenah in absentia and without the mace.
