The managing director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, has said that globally, aviation business is hinged on security and safety and charged the newly recruited aviation security personnel to embody the highest standards of integrity and professionalism for the safety and confidence passengers rest in their hands.
Kuku stated this in her speech at the passing out parade of 201 recruited aviation security cadets held at the Digital Bridge Institute, Lagos.
“The safety and security of lives and property is at the core of our business. As such, we deploy all human and material resources to ensure we provide the nation with the best trained personnel to carry out our various job functions with an emphasis on aviation security,” she said.
She announced that the recruits underwent eight weeks training “designed to help integrate new cadets into the civil aviation industry to implement, monitor and enforce aviation security measures proactively in accordance with locally approved regulations.”
Besides, she said the cadets went through various security training programmes, which include security awareness course, airport emergency response procedure, leadership training to improve their leadership skills as well as physical training.
All the programmes, she said, “are to ensure we offer our darling customers the best service possible.”
To the inductees, she congratulated them saying: “Your training has been extensive and challenging, but crucial in preparing you to be the vigilant sentinels of our skies.
“You, cadets, are our eyes and ears. Commit all our civil aviation regulations to heart and be as watchful as the eagle. Each time a plane takes to the skies or lands safely, acknowledge that you played a vital role in making it happen.”
“This ceremony not only marks a significant milestone in your careers but also in the journey of FAAN towards bolstering the nation’s aviation security. It is also one of our strategic responses to the increase in volume of passengers using our airports.”
Finally, Kuku said FAAN “will continue to prioritise the safety, security and comfort of our esteemed passengers and other stakeholders,” adding “ours is a noble commission and the management and staff are wholly committed to excellence in public service delivery.”
