Be transparent in distribution and sale of fertilizer–Lalong


The governor of Plateau State, Mr. Simon Lalong has called for transparency in the distribution and sale of fertilizer to farmers during the 2018 farming season.

The commissioner for information, Mr. Yakubu Dati said in a statement issued in Jos that the governor gave the directive in Dengi, headquarters of Kanam local government area, during the flag off of sale of the product.

He said the governor had directed the sale of NPK and Uriah fertilizer brands for N5500 per bag.

Lalong who said the government had, first time, purchased subsidized organic fertilizer for N4500 per bag added that extension staff had been employed to carry out soil tests to determine the type and quality of soil needed for specific communities in the state.

The governor disclosed that the state government bought about 19000 metric tones of fertilizer for distribution and sale during the current farming season.

During the flag off ceremony, the commissioner for agriculture, Mr. Hosea Finangwai, programme manager PADP, Mr. Philip Gonap, chairman All Farmers Association of Nigeria, Mr. Philip Azi and the Long Gomai of Shendam, Martin Shaldas presented goodwill messages.
