As the results of Saturday’s governorship and house of assembly elections come in trickles while final results are being awaited, NewsGazette takes a look at some news makers in Nigeria’s political landscape who have won or lost their polling units.

From Kwara State comes the report that the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) who lost his senatorial seat to the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Ibrahim Oloriegbe, delivered all the three polling units at his Ode-Opobiyi polling unit in Ajikobi ward in Ilorin West local government council area of the state.

They are : PU 005- Governorship PDP 157, APC 21, House of Assembly- PDP 151, APC 21; PU005 Governorship PDP 179, APC 51, House of Assembly, PDP 179, APC 48; PU 006 Governorship, PDP 253, APC 125, House of Assembly, PDP 257, APC 118; and PU 021 Governorship, PDP 202, APC 45, House of Assembly, PDP 202, APC 45.

ThisDay reports that the Saraki’s critic-in-chief and minister of information and culture, Mr. Lai Mohammed, also won his polling unit for the APC in Oro town in Irepodun local government council area of the state.

At polling unit 006, Oro Ward 2, results showed Governorship -APC 198, PDP 039; House of Assembly – APC 186, PDP 048.

President Muhammadu Buhari also delivered his polling unit 003, Kofar Baru III (A and B) Daura, Katsina State, to the APC governorship candidate for the state, Aminu Masari, with 370 votes.

NAN reports that the governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr.  Lado Danmarke scored 33 votes to come second at the polling unit.

The result of the state house of assembly at the unit indicated that the APC candidate for Daura constituency, Nasir Yahaya, got 336 against 40 votes scored by Lawal Husseini of the PDP.

 

The governor of Ogun State, Mr. Ibikunle Amosun who is a member of the APC but promotes the governorship candidate of the Allied People’s Movement (APM) delivered his polling unit to the APM.

In the governorship election at Polling unit 8, Ward 6, Ita-Gbangba, in Abeokuta South local government area of the state, APM scored 70 votes, while APC polled 31.

In the governorship election held at Polling unit 22, Ward 11, Olusomi Compound, Totoro, Sokori, in Abeokuta North Local Government Area in Abeokuta, where former President Olusegun Obasanjo cast his votes, the governorship candidate of the APM scored 72 votes, while the APC candidates who came second, polled 54 votes.

For the governor of Kaduna State, Mallam Nasir el-Rufai who is seeking a second term on the platform of the APC, it was the case of win one and lose one.

He won his Unguwan Sarki polling unit 024 with 367 votes to defeat his PDP challenger, Mr. Ashiru Kudan who got 59 votes.

However, the governor lost the state government house, Unit 013 to Ashiru who polled 145 votes against his 114.

The APC governorship candidate in Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, also won his Lateef Jakande/Femi Okunnu Polling Unit in Ikoyi, where he voted.

Punch reports that the governorship candidate got 124 votes to defeat his closest contender, Mr. Jimi Agbaje of the PDP who got 26 votes at the polling unit.

The former governor of Oyo State and leader of a coalition against the ruling APC government in the state, Mr. Rasheed Ladoja won his polling unit for the PDP.

The gubernatorial result showed PDP got 180 votes while APC received 34, in ward, unit 13 of Ibadan North local government.

Also, Chief Sharafadeen Alli, who was the gubernatorial candidate of the Zenith Labour Party (ZLP), but stepped down for the governorship candidate of the PDP, Mr. Seyi Makinde, delivered his polling unit.

In Alli’s family house, Biro compound, Oke Aremo, Ward 3, unit 022, PDP got 126 to APC’s 32.

The former governor of Ekiti State Mr. Ayo Fayose could not win his polling unit and ward in his hometown Afao Ekiti in Irepodun Ifelodun local government area for his party, PDP.

At Fayose’s unit at St David’s Primary School, Irepodun/Ifelodun constituency 2, it was APC, 168 votes and PDP, 26.

Also at units 15 and 003, Igbemo ward, APC polled 171 and 335 votes respectively while the PDP scored zero in the two units.

Fayose also lost in his Afao/Araromi ward, as APC scored 648 while the PDP got 67 votes.

The governor of Adamawa State, Mr. Muhammadu Bindow who is seeking a re-election on the platform of the APC, lost the state Government House polling units 012 and 09 to the PDP.

At the end of voting in unit 09, it was PDP, 167 and APC, 108; in unit 012, PDP got 136 votes while APC scored 81.

In Oyo State, Governor Abiola Ajimobi of the APC lost his polling unit 20 Ward 11 with his party scoring 112 votes while the PDP polled 145 votes.
