President Muhammadu Buhari on Tuesday approved new security measures, specifically targeted at the southeast and south-south regions of the country which have recently witnessed attacks on security personnel and facilities.
He gave the approval during the security meeting he presided over at the presidential villa, Abuja.
The acting inspector general of police, Mr. Usman Baba, who disclosed this to journalists after the meeting but did not give details.
The president also approved a memo presented by the national security adviser, Maj. Gen. Babagana Monguno (rtd), on the control of drugs he said are enablers of insecurity.
However, the NSA, who did not also elaborate while briefing the newsmen, said the meeting stressed the need to address the security challenges in the country particularly those that have arisen in the last few months.
Those in attendance at the meeting were the vice president, Prof Yemi Osinbajo, secretary to the government of the federation, Boss Mustapha and chief of staff to the president, Prof. Ibrahim Gambari.
