President Muhammadu Buhari has re-nominated the governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Mr. Godwin Emefiele for another term of five years.
A letter to the senate seeking Emefiele’s confirmation was read out by the senate president, Dr. Bukola Saraki at the close of plenary on Thursday.
In a letter to the president stated that he sought the confirmation by the senate pursuant to the provisions of Section 81(2) of the CBN Act, 2007.
He said the CBN governor’s first tenure will expire on June 2 adding that said the CBN governor’s reappointment will be for a second and final term of five years.
The president expressed his hope that the request would receive “the usual expeditious consideration of the Senate.”
Emefiele, 57, was the group managing director of Zenith Bank Plc before he was appointed in 2014 by the former president, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan.
