The Bayero University, Kano on Monday announced the graduation of 176 graduates who bagged first class honours across all faculties.
The vice chancellor of the university, Prof Sagir Abbas, disclosed this at a pre-convocation press conference in Kano.
The four-day event for the 39th convocation ceremony of the university begins on Wednesday, 12th, with the award of degrees, diplomas and certificates, while the grand finale is fixed for Saturday, February 14, 2025, with the award of an honorary degree.
According to Abbas, 176 undergraduate students graduated with first class degrees out of 8,769 graduates from 18 faculties.
Besides, 275 postgraduate students will receive PhD degrees, 2,590 will bag master degrees, and 535 received postgraduate diplomas.
The vice chancellor also said 4,402 graduands would receive degrees, diplomas and certificates at the ceremonies which will run for a week.
He further said conferred honorary doctorate degrees on a former military administrator of Kano State, Col Sani Bello (retd) and a businessman, Mr Auwalu Rano, , for their support to humanity and the development of education in Kano.
Abbas said Bello initiated the state’s colleges of sciences, which have produced thousands of students who have excelled in the country.
He said Bello’s administration approved the development of the university’s new campus.
Also, three renowned professors from the university would be decorated with distinguished emeritus professor status.
The awardees are professor of education administration and planning, Garba Dahuwa Azare, a renowned professor of geography, Julius Afolabi Falola and consultant physician with Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital AKTH and professor of medicine BUK, Musa Mohammed Borodo.
