The senate yesterday mandated its standing committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions to investigate the alleged assault on a security guard, Mr. Clement Sargwak by the chairman of Code of Conduct Tribunal, Mr. Danladi Umar.

Umar, in a viral video, was seen beating Sargwak at Banex Shopping Plaza in Abuja.

Senator Istifanus Gyang (PDP, Plateau North) who presented a petition on the issue to the senate on behalf of Sargwak informed the senate that Umar subjected Sargwak to thorough beating and even inflicted injuries on him.

Sargwak comes from Gyang’s senatorial district in Plateau State.

Following a public backlash against Umar, Sargwak petitioned the senate through Gyang.

Gyang at the plenary said the petitioner was seeking justice, given the assault on him by the Tribunal Judge, while carrying out his duty.

He said the petitioner alleged that Umar assaulted him and asked him to kneel down and also slapped him

When Senate President, Ahmad Lawan, sought to know if the matter was already before any court of law and was informed to the contrary, the petition was immediately referred to the committee on ethics, privileges and public petitions for investigation.
