Charles Oputa, popularly called Charly Boy, and his #OurMumuDonDo protesters have staged a demonstration at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission in Abuja to demand for the extradition of the former minister of petroleum resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke from the UK.
The protest came following the criticism that the group was hypocritical for asking for the return of President Muhammadu Buhari from medical treatment in the UK or his resignation from office while Madueke, who allegedly committed economic crimes was also staying in the UK.
“Following recent mind-boggling allegations of corruption and wanton looting of public funds and the collective patrimony of Nigerian citizens by the former minister for petroleum, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke, we call on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to apply for her extradition from the United Kingdom to face prosecution in Nigeria.
“Furthermore, a Federal High Court has ordered Mrs. Alison-Madueke to permanently forfeit several luxurious properties in several highbrow areas across the country to the federal government.
“It is therefore unimaginable that the Federal Government is not pushing for Mrs. Alison-Madueke’s extradition to face punishment for her alleged crimes,” said Charly Boy.
He also said the group would occupy Abuja for two days (beginning from today) to press home its demand.
It is believed that the demonstration is aimed at assuaging the feelings of those who had accused Charly Boy and his #OurMumuDonDo of being unfair to the president.
Diezani, who served under former President Goodluck Jonathan, is being investigated for alleged multi-billion dollar fraud and money laundering offences in Nigeria, the United Kingdom and America.
A court in Nigeria has ordered the forfeiture of some properties linked to the former minister which are believed to have been acquired with stolen wealth.
But Diezani has insisted that she has no case to answer and that the pieces of property linked to her were not hers.
