Global deaths reach 1.4 million
Nigeria has recorded 254 cases of the coronavirus as the disease spreads to Delta and Katsina states.
This followed the announcement of 16 new cases by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).
Of the 16 cases, 10 were recorded in Lagos State, two in Oyo, one in Delta, one in Katsina and two in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
“As at 09:30 p.m. on April 7, there are 254 confirmed cases of COVID-19 reported in Nigeria. Forty-four have been discharged with six deaths.
“The breakdown of the figures shows that Lagos has recorded 130 cases, FCT 50, Osun 20, Oyo and Edo 11 each, Bauchi six, Akwa Ibom and Kaduna five each, Ogun four, Enugu, Ekiti, Kwara and Rivers two each, while Benue, Ondo, Delta, and Katsina have recorded one each,” NCDC.
Also yesterday, Lagos State discharged one patient and FCT, seven to bring the tally to the 44 announced by the NCDC.
The governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu who broke the news said the patient was a female.
He said the state had taken steps to combat the virus.
Meanwhile, there are 1, 447, 471 cases of the coronavirus worldwide according to worldmeters.info with 83, 401 deaths while 309, 145 persons have recovered.
It also stated that 1,054,925 persons are currently infected with the virus with 1,006,931 (95 per cent) in mild condition and 47,994 (5 per cent) in serious or critical condition
Currently, the US leads with 400,549 cases; Spain, 146,690; Italy, 135,586; France, 109,069; and Germany, 107,663 cases.
In terms of fatalities, Italy tops with 17,127 deaths followed by Spain with 14,555; US, 12,857; France, 10,328, and UK, 6,159.
