National Council of State has approved N27, 000 as the wage for the least paid workers in the country.
However, federal government workers will take home N30, 000 as their minimum wage.
The decision was reached at the council’s meeting held at the Presidential Villa on Tuesday with former presidents and military heads of states, governors and leadership of the national assembly in attendance.
The minister of labour and employment, Dr. Chris Ngige, who disclosed the decision to journalists after the meeting, said the federal government will increase the amount to N30, 000 for federal government worker.
However, he said state governors could do the same for their employees.
“The bill approved by the council includes N30, 000 minimum wage for federal workers and N27, 000 for states and private sector,” he said.
With the approval, Ngige said a bill would be sent to the national assembly latest on Wednesday (tomorrow).
