The chairman, senate committee on trade and investment, Mrs. Rose Oko is dead.
Oko, 63, who represented Cross River north senatorial district on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), died last night at a UK medical facility
The late Senator, who was one of the female lawmakers in the senate, was elected into office as the first female senator from her senatorial district in June 2015 in the 8th senate and was re-elected in 2019.
She was the chairman of the senate committee on diaspora and non-governmental organisations during the 8th senate.
A close aide of the deceased, Mr. Patrick Ikorgor Okoroji, who confirmed the death expressed shock and sadness. “Heartbroken to hear of the passing of my dear Cousin Senator Dr Rose Okoji Oko after a long-fought battle with a physical affliction.
“You gave your best to your world now that it has pleased the Almighty God to call you home may your soul find eternal rest in Heaven. Adieu, Distinguished Senator Dr Rose Okoji Oko.”
“She passed on last night in the UK where she has been in the last one month,” a close aide said while confirming the story.
“The Amazon Goes Home, Sad! Distinguished Senator Dr Mrs. Rose Okoji Oko, You Left Us At The Time Your Services To The Great People Of CRS Is Highly Needed. May Your Soul Rest In Peace. Amen,” another aide posted on his Facebook wall.
Born on September 27, 1956, the late lawmaker was first elected as a representative of Yala/Ogoja federal constituency of Cross River State in the House of Representatives in 2011 and served as deputy chairman house committee on education.
