A civil organisation group known as Integrity Watch, has petitioned the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Atiku Abubakar about the activities of Dr Jamilu Gwamna who was recently removed as the managing director of Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO).
The group alleged in a statement signed by its national coordinator, Mr. Olowobusoye Esolaye and its zonal leader, Mr. Kamilu Abubakre Gwamna was in word and deed “surreptitiously planning to work against the PDP ahead of the general election next year.”
Besides, it said the erstwhile managing director was sacked for financial impropriety and other offences which resulted in Fidelity Bank Plc taking over the DisCo.
It further alleged that Gwamna almost ran the company aground and called on the Independent Corrupt Practices and Related Offences Commission (ICPC) and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to dig into Gwamna’s financial dealing while he served the company.
The statement reads in part: “As a group interested in corporate governance, we want to use this opportunity to call on the presidential candidate of the PDP, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to desist from frolicking with the sacked MD of KEDCO, Dr Gwamna because of his track record of betrayals.
“We make bold to state that a man who ran the company aground through political patronage and is surreptitiously planning to work against the PDP ahead of the general election next year by his utterances and actions is not deemed fit to be associated with the presidential candidate.
“We also call on ICPC and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission to beam its searchlight on the activities of Gwamna while he held sway as chief executive in order to serve as deterrent to others.”
Integrity Watch also dug into Gwamna’s political antecedents labeling him as a serial betrayer.
The group alleged that Gwamna betrayed the former All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) governor of Gombe State, Mr. Abubakar Hashidu, the Peoples Democratic Party governor of the state, Mr. Ibrahim Dankwambo as well as the incumbent, Mr. Inuwa Yahaya.
Efforts to reach Gwamna to respond to the allegations were unsuccessful as of the time of handing in this report.
