Dana Air has been made the official airline for the maiden edition of the Coalition of Wives of Presidents and Vice Presidents in Africa for Peace (COWAP) Summit for Peace and Development holding May 21-22 in Abuja.
The summit which has as its theme ‘African Women Summit for Peace and Development in Africa’ is put together by Engage, Empower, Educate Initiative, a non-governmental organisation which aims to harness the enormous capacity and goodwill of both sitting and past wives of presidents and vice presidents in Africa towards peace in Africa, girl-child education, and ending hunger and poverty in Nigeria.
Spokesman for the airline Mr. Kingsley Ezenwa explained that Dana Air will provide all delegates to the summit with “convenient fares”, as well as fly and provide logistics support to the organizing committee.
Commenting of the choice of the airline, Ezenwa said “it is testament to the fact that Africa appreciates and understands our efforts towards strategically connecting Nigerian cities to Africa, and providing safe, reliable and affordable air transport. We welcome this rare opportunity to showcase our award-wining service to all the delegates and Africa at large.”
In his remarks, the project leader, Meshack Kalada Belema, said over 3000 delegates will be expected at the event adding the coalition will be a catalyst for Africa’s development.
“We are working in tandem with the seven pillars of African Union’s Agenda 2063. We believe that Africa will be developed by Africans and this coalition will serve as critical player in the development.
“We are also working with airlines that are committed to the African dream with their developmental activities and have distinguished themselves over the years -Dana Air and Ethiopian Airlines- towards the success of the summit which is expected to draw over 3000 participants from African countries under the umbrella of the African Union,” he said.
Keynote speakers at the summit include the former president of Malawi, Joyce Banda, vice president of Liberia, Jewel Taylor, and director of The Kenyan School of Laws, Prof. Patrick Loch Otieno Lumumba.
