The deputy governor of Kano State, Mr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna and the commissioner for local government, Mr. Mutari Sule Garo, have been arrested for allegedly destroying result sheets.
Gawuna, alongside his ADC, the commissioner and the chairman of Nasarawa local government area, Mr. Lamin Sani was apprehended by the police in the early hours of Monday at the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) collation centre in Nassarawa local council.
The deputy governor, the commissioner and the chairman of Nasarawa local government Lamin Sani were said to have allegedly attacked the collation centre at about 1.30am on Monday morning with thugs that unleashed terror on the people before the security agents swiftly came in and overpowered them and took them to the Kano Police Command at Bompai.
Spokesman for the state police command, Mr. Abdullahi Haruna confirmed the arrest.
He said the suspects had been detained at the police headquarters in Bompai, Kano.
Speaking while in police custody, the deputy governor said it was destined that the incident will occur.
Meanwhile, the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), governorship Mr. Abba Yusuf, is reported to be ahead of the incumbent governor, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje of the ruling All Progressive Congress APC after polling results from 43 of the 44 local government areas were collated.
However the result so far indicates that the PDP scored 951,531 votes, while the APC has 935,451 votes.
With only one local government left, the PDP is comfortably leading with a margin of 16,080 votes.
Vanguard reports that the APC is leading in the number of local governments while the PDP is leading in the figures.
The PDP is in the winning because results margins at the APC winning points are slim while they are wide in the PDP winning points.
Meanwhile, INEC announced the suspension of collation of all the results for a short while.
The state election presiding officer Prof. B.B. Shehu together with the Resident Electoral Commissioner Prof. Riskuwa Shehu announced the decision after the incident involving the deputy governor and the others was reported.
