Senator Dino Melaye, who has been having a running battle with the police for his alleged involvement in a murder case and provision of support for criminal elements in Kogi State, has been arrested at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja.

Though it could not be immediately ascertained which of the security agencies arrested the lawmaker, Melaye who represents Kogi West senatorial district announced his arrest today on his twitter handle.

“Stopped from traveling and under arrest. No retreat no surrender. Talk we must. I have just been arrested at the international wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe airport on my way to Morocco for an official engagement sponsored by the Federal Govt after checking in,” ” he wrote in the tweet.

He said he was told that the police had placed him on its ‘no fly’ list and that he was therefore barred from travelling at the airport.

Melaye said he “snatched back” his passport from the official who confiscated it and made to proceed to board his flight.

“But I was then cycled by police officers trying to hold me and saying I am on Interpol wanted list.

“We have called Interpol and they said it is a lie. Someone has also mentioned to me that my name was placed at the airport by a police commissioner.

“So here we are, a standoff at a public place at our international airport. We are here,” he wrote.

It would be recalled that the police declared Melaye wanted on March 28, 2018 alongside Mohammed Audu, son of a former governor of the state, Abubakar Audu

The police also announced that Melaye had been placed on Interpol watch list for allegedly providing false information to the police in relation to last year’s alleged attempt on his life.
