The federal government has scheduled the final verification and payment of N22.68 billion entitlement to employees of the defunct Nigeria Airways for Monday, October 15, 2015.
Paul Abechi, special adviser on media and communications to the finance minister, Mrs. Zainab Ahmed, said in a statement in Abuja that the payment will last one week simultaneously across three designated centers-Lagos, Kano and Enugu states.
He said the exercise will take place at Sky-Power Catering, Ikeja, Lagos; ABC (former Nigeria Airways Office), Bank Road, Kano; and Villa Toscana Hotel, Independent Layout, Enugu.
“The venue for the Enugu centre is Villa Toscana Hotel, No. 1, Aguleri Street, Independent Layout, Enugu. The exercise will take place from Monday, October 15 to Monday, October 22, 2018 across the centres, except in Enugu where it will end on Thursday, October 18, 2018,” it added.
The statement further revealed that beneficiaries were expected to come along with letter of appointment, letter of confirmation, letter of last promotion, letter of retirement, NAL identity card, and other means of identification and particulars of bank accounts.
“That beneficiaries will be subjected to biometric data capture. Beneficiaries should come along with copies of documents listed above for submission to the verification committee. The beneficiaries are to be captured in an orderly manner hence, notice will be placed at the venue and specific date for capturing of each beneficiary will be indicated,” it stated.
It would be recalled that the federal government had in 2017 approved N45 billion to pay the entitlement of the defunct airline.
But after one year, the federal government approved immediate release of N22.68 billion which is 50 per cent of the total entitlement of N45.3 billion agreed for the workers of the liquidated airline.
It would also be recalled that the initial submission for the retirement benefits of the workers was about N78 billion.
But the N45.3 billion was arrived at following the verification exercise conducted by the presidential initiative on continuous audit (PICA) in conjunction with other interest groups.
