The Ekiti State House of Assembly has impeached its deputy speaker, Segun Adewumi, and the chief whip, Akinniyi Sunday,
In a statement issued by the chairman, House Committee on Information, Mr. Samuel Omotosho, the sacked lawmaker was accused of alleged “gross misconduct” among some other offences including “personal conducts likely to bring the Assembly to disrepute” and “obvious threat to peace of members and obstruction of constitutional functions of the House.”
He was also accused of “dereliction, desertion, abscondment and abandonment of constitutional vested responsibilities of the Office of the deputy speaker.”
Omotosho said the former deputy speaker was removed with a division list signed by two-thirds majority members and unanimously passed by the House as required by law.
He said the House in its resolution also mandated the clerk to ensure that the former deputy speaker handed over all properties of the House with immediate effect.
Omotoso further said the House had elected a chartered advertising practitioner and public relations consultant, Mr. Sina Animasaun, Ekiti West 2, to replace the sacked deputy speaker.
Omotosho also announced that the former chief whip had been replaced by Mr. Olawale Onigiobi from Ekiti South West 1.
Similarly, drama ensued during a plenary in the Gombe State House Assembly as a member representing Akko west constituency, Abdullahi Abubakar, took fled with the mace in an attempt to impeach the minority leader.
It was gathered that the minority leader, Mohammed Usman Haruna, was reported to have held a press conference on May 5 and condemned the processes of the ward congress of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
It was learnt that following that development, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), dominated assembly, felt aggrieved with the move by the minority leader and began the process of impeaching him.
