Emir Sanusi II deposed for alleged disrespect to constituted authorities

The Kano State government on Monday ousted the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II for alleged disrespect to the governor, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje and other constituted authorities.

Secretary to the state government, Mr. Usman Alhaji who announced the dethronement to journalists at Kano Government said such act is said to be contrary to part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019.

Alhaji who also stated that a new Emir of Kano Emirate will be appointed soon said: “Kano state executive council under Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje had unanimously approved the immediate removal/dethronement of the emir of Kano Emirate Muhammad Sanusi II.

“The Emir of Kano is in total disrespect to lawful instructions from the office of the state governor and other lawful authorities, including his persistent refusal to attend official meetings and programmes organised by the government without any lawful justification which amounts to total insubordination.

“It is on record and in so many instances Malam Muhammad Sanusi II has been found breaching part 3 section 13 (a-e) of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and which if left unchecked will destroy the good and established image of the Kano Emirate.

“This removal is made after due consultation with the relevant stakeholders and compliance with part 3 section 13 of the Kano State Emirate Law 2019 and other reasons stated above.

“The removal was reached in order to safeguard the sanctity, culture, tradition, religion and prestige of the Kano Emirate built over a thousand years.

“His Excellency Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje OFR calls on the general public to remain calm, law abiding and to go about their normal businesses. While a new Emir of Kano Emirate will soon be appointed,” he said.

Meanwhile, it was gathered that prior to being taken away by the DSS, police and military personnel, Sanusi was put under house arrest and the palace cordoned by armed security operatives.

It was also gathered that Ganduje will announce the Emir of Bichi, Aminu Ado Bayero to replace the ousted monarch.
