The kingmakers in Kano have engaged seven senior lawyers and 17 others to challenge the governor of the state, Mr. Abdullahi Ganduje and Kano House Assembly and others in court for creating four new emirates in Kano.
The kingmakers namely Madakin Kano, Yusuf Nabahani; Makaman Kano, Sarki Ibrahim, Sarkin Dawaki Maituta, Bello Abubakar and Sarkin Bai, Mukhtar Adnan filed a suit on Tuesday at the state High Court.
The speaker of Kano State House of Assembly, Kano State House of Assembly, the governor of Kano State, the attorney general of Kano State and the four emirs appointed by the governor are named as respondents in the suit.
The legal team is made up of Prince Lateef Fegbemi, A. B, Mahmoud, Adeniyi Akintola, Suraj Sa’eda, Hakeem O. Afolabi, Paul Usoro and Nassir Abdu Dangiri, all senior lawyers.
The others are Messrs Maliki Kuliya Umar Esq, Nureini S. Jimoh Esq, Dr. Nasiru Aliyu, Sagir Gezawa Esq, Muritala O. Abdulrasheq, Aminu S. Gadanya, Ismail Abdulaziz, Rashidi Isamotu, Oseni Sefullahi, Ibrahim Abdullahi, Haruna Saleh Zakariyya, Auwal A. Dabo, Badamasi Sulaiman, O. O. Samuel, Fariha Sani Abdullahi, Yahaya Isah Abdulrasheed, and Amira Hamisu.
According to the kingmakers the effect to the purported law creating four new Kano emirates has distorted history, especially as it regards to the positions they are holding in the emirate.
They said their position is a heritage in trust for their respective clans of Jobawa, Sullubawa, Yolawa and Dambazawa.
