Angry youths on Wednesday stormed the family home of the governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Omididun Street, Lagos Island and set it ablaze.
It was learnt that the action was a fallout of yesterday’s alleged killing of unconfirmed number of EndSARS protesters who gathered at the Lekki Toll Plaza in Lagos.
Recall that the governor had announced 24-hour curfew in the state due to the EndSARS demonstration.
The curfew which was slated to begin at 4 pm was afterward extended to 9 pm.
It was gathered that some hours after the announcement, staff of Lekki Concession Company (LCC), were seen on tape removing all the CCTV mounted on the tolls.
At dusk, some unknown persons turned off all the street lights, throwing the toll-gate into pitch darkness.
Thereafter, soldiers arrived at the scene and began to shoot at the unarmed protesters.
Punch quoted eyewitnesses as saying that one the youths was seen soaking the house in petrol but was quickly stopped by residents for fear that the fire could spread uncontrollably.
However, the entreaties by the residents failed as the angry youths set the house ablaze.
It was learnt that policemen attached to the Adeniji Adele Police Station had raced to the scene in a bid to put out the fire.
Elsewhere on CMD Road, hoodlums torched the building housing Television Continental (TVC).
The station is linked to a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (TVC), Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.
According to Premium Times, a reporter with the station confirmed the development.
The source said parts of the stations is already up in flames while journalists and other workers on night and early morning duties are currently trapped.
“Yes, I can confirm it. Cars within the compound are already on fire and parts of the station are in flames. Our popular morning programme “Your View” that was ongoing before the attack is already off air. Please pray for our colleagues who are trapped and taking cover in the compound,” the source said.
Elsewhere on the mainland, miscreants set the Oyingbo Terminal Bus on fire.
The Nation reported that there were over 20 buses in the terminal as at the time it was set on ablaze.
It was further gathered the hoodlums were protesting killing of two of their members by the police.
Suspected hoodlums also entered the Lagos headquarters of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) on Marina and set it ablaze.
A member of the Lagos State Fire Service, who confirmed the incident, said they set fire to the building.
He said efforts were on to salvage the situation.
The firefighter said a statement would soon be released on the level of destruction done to the federal facility.
