The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Mr Umo Eno, has approved the release of N450 million as counterpart fund for the World Bank women empowerment programme in the state christened ‘Nigeria for Women Project’
The governor this when he hosted a delegation of the Bretton Woods institution led by the country director for Nigeria, Mr Shudham Chaudhury, at the Government House in Uyo.
Eno said his administration was ready to partner in priority areas of agriculture and rural development in line with the government’s ‘ARISE Agenda’.
He assured the visiting World Bank team that The state would make efforts to close gaps in the existing projects and explore more areas of partnership with the bank to benefit the Akwa Ibom people.
He assured the delegation that the N450 million counterpart fund would be made available “in the next one week.”
Earlier in his remarks, Chaudhury applauded governor for the ARISE Agenda describing the contents as “rich, attractive and result-oriented.”
He explained that the visit was meant to share knowledge with the state as well as give the overview of the World Bank’s effort and support to Nigeria in furthering the development of the country and its sub-nationals.
He expressed the World Bank’s commitment towards solving development challenges which, according to him, will lift Nigerians out of poverty.
