The Lagos State commissioner of health, Prof Akin Abayomi yesterday released statistics showing that Eti Osa local government area leads the others with the highest number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in the state.
Abayomi released the information at a press conference at a news conference while giving an update on COVID-19 situation at the Island Maternity Hospital, Lagos Island.
According to the data, Eti-Osa tops the list with 47 cases; Ikeja and Lagos Mainland local government areas, 24 and 11 cases respectively, while Alimosho, Agege and Ikorodu record one case apiece.
“Eti-Osa local government has the highest number of confirmed cases in Lagos State,” he said.
Abayomi stated that Lagos recorded a total of 98 confirmed cases in six of the local government areas.
The commissioner also disclosed that four more coronavirus patients had been discharged bringing the total number of discharged persons in the state to 24.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state was tracing 2,450 contacts of infected persons.
Abayomi appealed to Lagos residents to maintain social distancing adding that severe cases may be witnessed in the state.
“The graph is flattening. As our numbers increase, we may see some critical cases. From the numbers we have, we don’t have many numbers like that of Europe.
“Social distancing is so effective. You may be infected and have mild symptoms. We have only one or two cases that are severe,” he said.
Abayomi also revealed that most COVID-19 patients in the state are between ages 30 and 59 years, except for three patients who are between 60 and 70 years currently receiving treatment.
The commissioner also said 64 per cent of the patients are males while 36 per cent females.
“Ninety-one per cent of confirmed #COVID-19 cases in Lagos are Nigerians, nine per cent are foreigners,” he added.
The commissioner added that the coronavirus cases being handled in the state were mild except for two patients who had moderate to severe issues, but noted that their cases had not got to a point where they needed ventilators.
At a glance, Lagos State COVID-19 cases are: total confirmed cases, 98; active cases, 74; total discharged, 24; total evacuated, 1; test conducted daily, 200 to 300, and ventilators, about 20.
