There is jubilation in the camp of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as congratulatory messages have started to trickle in for the president-elect, Mr. Bola Tinubu.
Recall that there was apprehension among the party’s supporters when countries withheld congratulatory messages to Tinubu who was announced the winner of the February 25 presidential election believed to have been fraudulent and seriously flawed.
Tinubu was announced as the winner having got 8,794,726 votes while Messrs Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP) had 6,984,520 and 6,101,533 votes respectively. Tainted
The latest congratulatory messages came from the presidents of Cuba and Nicaragua.
Similarly, the Developing Eight Organisations for Economic Cooperation (D8) felicitated with the president-elect on victory at the poll.
Media aide to the president-elect, Mr. Tunde Rahman, said in a statement on Saturday that the president of Cuba, Mr. Maguel Diaz-Canel Bermudez, in a congratulatory to Tinubu said his election “is a reaffirmation of the will to continue to strengthen the historic relations of friendship between the two countries.
For its part, Nicaragua expressed its best wishes for Nigeria’s peace and prosperity.
“Our best wishes for peace and prosperity of Nigeria, while reiterating our unwavering commitment to continue strengthening the fraternal bonds of solidarity and brotherhood that unite our people and governments,” the letter signed by the president, Daniel Saavedra and deputy, Rosario’s Murillo stated.
Also, the D8 said it looked forward to working with Tinubu’s administration.
“Nigeria is a staunch member of the D8 Organisation. The country graciously hosts the D8 Health and Social Protection (D-8 HSP) in Abuja and is on track to host the D8 Centre for Small and Medium Enterprises.
“Nigeria is also preparing to host the first D8 Private Sector-driven Energy Forum in Lagos in mid-2023.
“We look forward to working with your administration to realise the aims and objectives of our organisation,” it said in a statement by its secretary general, Mr. Isiaka Abdulqadir Imam.
