The Eze Ndigbo of Ajao Estate, Frederick Nwajagu, has been arrested for threatening to invite the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafria (IPOB) fighters to Lagos to protect the properties of the south easterners living in the state.

Spokesman for the Lagos State police command, Mr. David Hundeyin confirmed the arrest.

He said Nwajagu was arrested in a midnight raid and had since been taken into the custody of the Department of State Services.

The Igbo chief was said to have been arrested on Saturday by a joint team of policemen and operatives of DSS.

He was also said to have been apprehended in a hotel in the Ejigbo area of the state after fleeing his palace when DSS personnel arrived there.

The arrest followed his threat to invite members of IPOB to secure the properties of Igbo people in Lagos.

Speaking in a viral video on Friday, he could be heard saying Igbo indigenes in Lagos must recruit members of IPOB for the safety of their properties.

“IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that.

“We must have our security so that they will stop attacking us at midnight, in the morning, and in the afternoon. When they discover that we have our security before they come, they will know that we have our men there.

“I am not saying a single word to be hidden. I am not hiding my words; let my words go viral. Igbo must get their rights and get standing in Lagos state,” he said.

He also charged the public to make his claims go viral.

“The operation was carried out at midnight. The security operatives didn’t meet him in his palace. But we found out through intelligence gathering that he had lodged in a hotel in Ejigbo.

“He was traced to the location and arrested around 1 am. He is currently in the DSS custody where he is being investigated,” Hundeyin stated.
